Introduction to the Research
You are invited to participate in a research study being conducted by researchers at Penn State University. The purpose of this study is to understand how consumers evaluate and choose common products. You are being invited because you are part of the general consumer population and your preferences will contribute to generalizable knowledge in decision making.
Key Details About Participation
This study is considered minimal risk, meaning the risks are no greater than those encountered in daily life.
- What you will do: You will be asked to view several sets of product choices (e.g., two different options for wall art prints). For each set, you will select the option you prefer.
- Time Commitment: The survey is expected to take no more than 15 minutes.
- Risks: The primary risk is potential fatigue or boredom from the task. There are no anticipated physical, social, or legal risks.
- Benefits: There are no direct personal benefits to you.
- Confidentiality: Your participation is completely anonymous. We will not collect your name, email address, or any other identifying information that could link your responses back to you. All data will be kept confidential and stored on secure university servers.
- Voluntary Participation: Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to answer any question, stop the survey at any time, or refuse to participate.

Imagine you are buying artwork for your home. Think about whether you would pay the listed price for the artwork. You will see that some artwork is associated with a specific artist and for others the artist is not displayed.
- There are 20 choice tasks.
- Each task shows two print options side by side with an image, artist name (sometimes), and price.
- Simply click on the print you prefer. The survey will advance automatically.
- You can also choose "I wouldn't buy either of these" if neither appeals to you.
- You can go back to change a previous answer using the Back button.
- There are no right or wrong answers.
